Protection for cemetery staff and visitors
Toppling gravestones are not just a nuisance – they can endanger people's lives and health. To prevent damage, stability tests must be carried out and documented regularly. For correct and verifiable testing, every standing gravestone from a height of 50 cm must be subjected to a force of 300 newtons at its upper edge at least once a year. If a grave stele withstands this force, its stability is proven in accordance with the TA-Grabmal directive; if not, the gravestone must at least be marked with a warning notice and the grave users must be asked to have its stability restored. In doing so, the cemetery operator fulfils their duty of care and is protected against claims for damages and compensation resulting from toppled gravestones.
Standard model for routine tests
Routine tests can be carried out with the Kipp-Tester "Basic Version" with a preset test force of 300 newtons. For many years, this robust and compact testing device has served cemetery operators, stonemasons, cemetery gardeners and service providers who carry out the annual testing and documentation of the stability of standing monuments on behalf of the respective cemetery administrations – more than 5,000 devices sold are in use worldwide, testifying to the high quality of this solid measuring tool, on which we also grant a 5-year warranty. Only in special cases – such as the initial testing of newly erected grave steles – must the test force be 500 newtons on a one-off basis.
The test force can be changed
The desired test force of the Kipp-Tester can be changed – so the Kipp-Tester is never a bad buy! However, because the test force must be verifiably set correctly and then calibrated, this may only be done by our service, e.g. as part of device maintenance. For the vast majority of stability tests – namely the annual routine tests – setting the test force to 300 newtons is recommended. For the Kipp-Tester "Basic Version", which signals reaching the test force acoustically, the optional force measuring unit (KraftMessEinrichtung) with drag pointer is available: the current and maximum test force are displayed visually. The so-called handling aid makes the work considerably easier, like a tripod. For "wobbly candidates" there are bright yellow warning stickers in packs of 100, 200 or 500.
